You would think there are plenty of kids out there who need homes.

Demand

It may be crass, but it's also the truth. People want their dogs when they're puppies and their kids when they're babies. I suppose they think getting either of them younger makes it easier to mold them to their wishes.  There are more than enough kids that need home out there, but apparently not enough babies, and one woman is accused of trying to make that a lucrative venture.

The Crime

A Texas adoption agency owner is accused of paying pregnant inmates to put their babies up for adoption through her. This was enough for her to be accused of unethical behavior and being charged with "attempting to purchase children" which is a felony in Texas (for the record, selling children is also against the law).

So Is It Unethical?

For just a moment, let's consider that the women were involved were behind bars, probably in need of cash, and we can be fairly sure that if they kept their babies they wouldn't have the best start in life. The bigger problem would lie in the potential for some women to repeat the process and just have babies as a money making venture. It should be said that there are many, many parents who have turned their life around and raised great children, but one would think that a parent willing to take money for their child might not be counted among them.

The Case

The person charged is actually an attorney and the head of what is supposed to be a nonprofit adoption agency. She was arrested and is now out on a $50,000 bond. She has made no comments about the case or her charges.
