The Creepy House

We all had "that house" in our neighborhood when we were kids. There were rumors' of dark doings, witchery, and all kinds of things that frighten children. How one house becomes "that house" isn't really known, maybe some houses feature overgrown plants, have a run-down/creepy look, or occupants that no one ever sees,

My Own Story

My story is of a house that had no supernatural element to it, but tales of violence. We had a house in our neighborhood that did have all of the overgrown creepy plants around it. The home owner had also rigged up some kind of weird rope device so that he could retrieve his mail without going to the mailbox. This remote mailbox also featured a doorbell and the rumor was, he could legally shoot kids with a shotgun that rang it and ran (so of course, we rang it and ran).

Don't Be That House

Here's how to not be "that house". If you'd rather not be the creepy neighbor, start by mowing your lawn and making sure your bushes and plants don't go like crazy. Occasionally go outside and maybe wave at people while making a "totally not creepy face". Maybe tone down some of your weirder eccentricities, and if the neighborhood kids taunt you, don't chase them with any kind of yard equipment.

Texas Tall Tales

We asked Texans to describe what they know about the mysterious places in their neighborhoods with the question, "What's a rumor you heard about a house in your neighborhood when you were a kid?". The answers all fall in the "that's about right" column, checking all of the boxes named above.

What's a rumor you heard about a house in your neighborhood when you were a kid?
