As if Texans don’t have enough to worry about right now, there is a new scam to watch out for. This one doesn’t involve gift cards or someone telling you that you have a warrant out for your arrest pretending to be law enforcement. This one has to do with water filtration systems.
Terrell Warns Residents About Fake Utility Workers
The city of Terrell, Texas posted on social media recently that they have received multiple reports of individuals going door to door claiming to be City of Terrell employees. These individuals are reportedly targeting elderly residents and are working in groups of three to sell water filtration systems.
Just like in many East Texas towns, the city of Terrell requires anyone going door to door soliciting sales must have a permit. And even after a permit is issued, the hours in which they can approach residents are between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The city of Terrell is reminding residents that if a city employee needs to make contact with a resident, they will have proper identification and be in a city-marked vehicle.

Could This Happen in East Texas?
While I haven’t heard of anyone being approached east of Terrell, it’s still something that everyone in East Texas should be aware of just in case we see this move closer to our communities.

Help Get the Word Out
If you are approached by anyone saying they are with the city and attempting to sell you a water filtration system, remember to contact law enforcement immediately. It’s sad that you have to watch out for this but please spread the word so none of your friends, family members, or neighbors become the next victim.
