It’s Nearly Impossible to Watch the Texas Rangers Play Baseball in Lubbock
I've always loved the Texas Rangers, but this year I'm not going to watch any of their games.
I'm not boycotting the Rangers because they are going to be bad, I just don't have cable and the MLB is deadset on fans not being able to enjoy their product easily. I won't pretend that I've been able to keep up with the FSSW saga in the past few seasons, but I do know that the channel formerly known as FSSW will now be known as Bally Sports and will air about 160 Texas Rangers games this season.
The problem is the only way to enjoy the Texas Rangers, from my extensive research, is with ATT TV or Suddenlink. If you've cut the cable cord it's basically impossible to watch the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, or Dallas Stars in Lubbock. You have HULU Live? No Texas Rangers. Do you have Youtube TV or Sling? No Texas Rangers.
I was hoping with the rebrand to Bally Sports the Rangers broadcasts would be available to a wider swath of the population. I was wrong, though the broadcast will remain in the hands of Dave Raymond and CJ Nitkowski and the team might lose 100 games, so what am I really missing.
I guess what I'll really miss is former Red Raider Emily Jones and her in-game reporting, at least I can follow her on Twitter without a cable subscription.
You might be saying to yourself, "This guy should just buy MLB TV and stop complaining." I would! I would happily pay the outrageous fee for MLB TV to watch the Texas Rangers but due to the archaic blackout rules with the MLB and televised games, I can't watch the Rangers broadcasts without a VPN claiming I'm out of the market. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm doing something illegal to watch baseball games.
Maybe it's just the capitalist in me, but I should have more options available than a cable contact to watch America's past time.
Am I alone? Can everyone else easily watch the Rangers and I'm just overreacting?
