Thirty-five-year-old Shawn Casey Adkins was arrested over 10 years after the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn of Mitchell County. Here's how the arrest was made.

Dunn was last seen on December 27th, 2010. Her body wasn't discovered until March 2013 near Lake JB Thomas in Scurry County.

Since day 1, Adkins had been a person of interest in the case. At the time of Dunn's death, he was dating her mother. It's said that the circumstances surrounding the young girl's disappearance led police to Adkins, but due to lack of new evidence, the investigation stalled.

However, in 2020, KAMC News reports that Ricky Thompson, district attorney for the 32nd Judicial District, consulted with Texas Rangers, who took a new look into the investigation.

A search warrant was eventually obtained to collect Adkin's DNA, and it was obtained on Sunday, June 13th. After the DNA was collected, an arrest warrant was obtained.

Adkins was arrested and transported to the Howard County Jail. He would later be transferred to the Mitchel County Detention Center where he currently remains on a $2 million bond.

Dunn's mother, Billie Dunn, in response to Adkins being arrested said. "I'm not surprised, and I thank God that person has been apprehended and is going to pay for what he did here on earth."

Amarillo On 'America's Most Wanted'

I was surprised to find out recently that we also have a bit of a history with the show America's Most Wanted.

Digging through old news articles, I found several separate occasions where Amarillo and America's Most Wanted crossed paths. It makes me wonder if there are some that I've missed.
