Halloween Costumes Not in the Budget? Here’s Some Ideas
[/caption]Halloween is right around the corner and in today's strapping tight economy, parent's wallets and budgets are stretched to the limit, but no one wants their kid to miss out on one of the funnest nights of the year. So here are some costume ideas that will not break the bank.
For the babies out there just an appearance will bring out the "OMG, how cute" comments so bedtime jammies or little whiskers and a bunny nose painted on will be too cute. Sunday's best will be more than enough as well. Try an Easter dress or outfit that may be in the closet and does not get a lot of use.
Toddlers? Same idea. Glitz and glam your girls in a cute dress, spun up hair and over the top make-up (think Toddlers and Tiaras). Put your boys in their best Sunday suit, sun glasses and a fedora and let them just look impressive. A box, scotch tape and a little paint would make an easy Ipod with their face in the screen, and a clown is a classic that only needs some ratty clothes and a good coat of make-up.
School aged kids can always go in their school football, soccer, baseball or other school sports uniforms. Try their pads and stuff but let them wear their pro jersey's instead of their schools. Perhaps cheer leading uniforms for my little ladies? Maybe a Texas Tech shirt and some face painting would be a great "TTU super-fan" costume? And you know all little girls love Taylor Swift or Justin Beiber so a "superfan" would be a great idea. Try letting them make their own fan T's of their favorite Pop Star with a little paint, glue and glitter.
High school kids are pretty easy. They are creative enough to pull of all kind of looks. Pajamas and house shoes always work. Rocker with cut up jeans and one of your old concert or band T's tied and altered just right always looks hot. But really, most high school aged kids will be far to cool to wear a costume...LOL
If you put your mind to it, your house, garage and closets are full of possibilities that will not embarrass you or the kids and will not break your pocket book. It's Halloween after all. Free candy and sweet treats is the goal of all kiddos way before coming in first in a costume contest. Believe it or not the creative and homemade costumes usually win way before the $50 store bought costume will.
