Greg Abbott Says Resources on Standby for Inclement Weather

On Tuesday, March 16th, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that state resources were on standby for inclement weather that was expected to impact the state through Wednesday.

Governor Abbott said:

With heavy rain, high winds, and blizzard conditions expected in parts of the state overnight, Texans should be cautious of flood risks and potential damage from this weather event. The resources I have rostered will help our communities prepare and respond to any emergencies that arise during these storms.

The following resources have been rostered in preparation to support requests from local officials:

Texas A&M Forest Service: Saw Crews and Incident Management Teams
Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service: Boat Squads and Type 3 Urban Search and Rescue Packages
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department: Texas Game Warden Boat Teams
Texas Department of State Health Services: Texas Emergency Medical Task Force Severe Weather Packages
Texas Department of Public Safety, Helicopters with Hoist Capability
Texas Department of Transportation: Crews Pretreating Roadways and Maintaining 24 Hour Operations

KAMC News reports that there are threats of strong thunderstorms over the eastern Rolling Plains through Wednesday, and a cold front will then bring strong gusty wind, blowing dust and an elevated fire weather danger.

Lubbock is under a High Wind Watch until Wednesday, as well as the rest of the northern half of the South Plains and Rolling Plains. Portions of the Texas Panhandle face threats of blizzard conditions.
