This probably won't come as a shock to anyone, but gas prices aren't going in the right direction for most drivers. In fact, the state of Texas just set a new record for the price of gas with an average gas price of $4.10 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel.

Thankfully in Lubbock, not all gas stations have reached that price, but who knows how high they will they will go over the next few weeks. According to KETK and AAA, this time last year, drivers in Texas were paying $1.38 less than we are now. Wouldn't that price be nice to get back to?

Drivers in El Paso are paying the most at $4.23 per gallon, and the lowest gas price can be found in Amarillo at $3.91 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.42. This is an increase of 17 cents compared to last week and the price grew $1.41 more than last year.

Pump prices continue to soar because of the increase in crude oil prices. A barrel of crude oil still costs more than $100, and the European Union could possibly add new sanctions on Russian oil. There is a fear that oil supply is being affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, said AAA Texas.

And sadly, there is no end in sight for these prices. The question is, will they have an impact on Summer travel? Memorial Day Weekend is coming up and it is traditionally a pretty big travel weekend. So far there are no signs that high prices are keeping people off the road.
