A local car club called Muscle Mayhem is being sued after three of its members were arrested for illegal street racing.

Sixty-nine-year-old Howard Wright was killed in a car crash involving three members of Muscle Mayhem: Xavier Montalvo, Luis Salinas, and Anthony Martin.

According to police, on Feb. 24th, 2020, the three men were illegally street racing on Slide Road when one of their vehicles struck Wright's vehicle at 75th Street going more than 50 miles per hour.

Wright's family is suing the three men and their car club, Muscle Mayhem, for promoting illegal street racing online. The lawsuit is being represented by local attorney Ted Liggett and the Liggett Law Group. A specific monetary amount was not listed in the suit.

From the lawsuit:

Prior to his death, Howard Wright sustained significant personal injuries, medical liabilities, pain, suffering and mental anguish. Howard Wright’s fatal injuries were caused by Defendants’ negligence. Muscle Mayhem continuously promoted street racing amongst its members, knowing the risks involved in street racing. The street racing culture of Defendant Muscle Mayhem’s members created an unreasonable interference with public safety and peace.

In related news, the Lubbock Police Department, alongside the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, Texas DPS, and the Lubbock District Attorney, held a press conference on Monday, March 9th, 2020, to announce a crack-down on illegal street racing and speeding in general.
