In America we celebrate all sorts of weird things in weird ways. Let's blow stuff up for Independence Day? Fun, yes, but is it the best use of our time? No, but its awesome so who cares. In Poland they celebrate some weird things with some weird traditions too. They were celebrating the shortest day of the year, and decided that releasing 8,000 paper lanterns into the night sky would look cool. Well they were right. But not as cool as fireworks I have to say.
