Dylan Cantrell Gets Drafted by Chargers in 6th Round
The Red Raiders had two receivers drafted in the in the first six rounds of the NFL draft this weekend. Both Red Raider draft picks ended up with another Red Raider in the organization. Keke Coutee went to the Texans with Wes Welker as his WR coach, and Dylan Cantrell is going to the Chargers with HC Anthony Lynn.
Cantrell, AKA Tony Magnum, was productive at Texas Tech and will join a loaded Chargers team with quarterback Philip Rivers at the helm. The receiver corps is led by Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Cantrell adds immediate impact and will be a valuable member of the special teams squads with his untapped athleticism.
Cantrell is incredibly intriguing out of the slot in the NFL as a blocker and mid-range receiver. Like a tight end, but not.
The Chargers also added two premier safeties to the defense with FSU Seminole Derwin James and West Virginia Mountaineer Kyzir White.
The Chargers will play Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs twice a year playing in the same division: the season opener on September 9th, and again on December 13th. The Chargers also play the Ravens and Michael Crabtree on Dec. 23rd.
