No Tex-Mex meal is complete without a refreshing margarita. You especially know you are in a quality Tex-Mex restaurant when they have one of those iconic frozen margarita machines.

Did you know the frozen margarita machine was actually invented in Texas.

Dallas restaurant owner Mariano Martinez invented the idea after receiving complaints about his establishment’s margaritas. In order to combat these complaints, he knew he needed to come up with a quick solution.

After visiting a local 7-eleven, he notices the Slurpee machine and had a great idea to serve his margaritas out of one of them. This would guarantee that all of his drinks tasted the same, were cold enough, and would make his customers happy.

With the help of his father, they made the perfect recipe and got their hands on a machine to serve the drinks out of. The original machine was later displayed in the National Museum of American History and the State Fair of Texas.

I don’t know about you, but I feel like there is something so good about a classic frozen margarita. The cold, sweet, and tart drink matches perfectly with Tex-Mex and has to be available on the menu. Sure, a regular margarita is fine, but a frozen one is truly Tex-Mex.

Thankfully the blender is no longer needed thanks to Martinez’s great idea to use a Slurpee machine to serve frozen margaritas.
