Did You Know the Theme Song to ‘The Mary Tyler Moore’ Song Was Written and Performed By a West Texas Native?
Meadow, Texas has many reasons to be proud of her native son, Sonny Curtis.
Curtis has written more than 500 songs, many of which became massive hits for some of the biggest legends in music history.
From the rebellious "I Fought the Law," which was recorded by many different musicians including The Clash, to The Everly Brothers' classic and charming "Walk Right Back." Even huge country hits like "I'm No Stranger to the Rain," Sonny Curtis has left his musical mark popular music in many genres and across decades.
But one of Curtis' biggest successes was a sweet, yet empowering song called "Love Is All Around" -- better known as the theme to "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."
Sonny Curtis has been a legend around these parts for some time. In 1986, he was inducted into The West Texas Hall of Fame, not only for his songwriting, but also because he performed with Buddy Holly's backing band The Crickets.
Curtis was also the first musician to ever be recorded play a Fender Stratocaster, now recognized as one of the most iconic guitars in rock and roll. His musical awards and accolades are too long to list here.
