Construction of Loop 88 Will Begin Wednesday, November 3rd
Loop 88 construction will begin on Wednesday, November 3rd, and Lubbock residents are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at the northeast corner of Loop 88 at FM 1585 and Indiana Avenue. Parking will be available at the United Supermarkets at 12815 Indiana Avenue.
The process to build a second loop around Lubbock began with a Feasibility Study requested by the Lubbock Metropolitan Organization back in May of 2009. That study would be completed in 2010, and a study to determine the route corridor was conducted in 2013 and 2014.
Finally, the preferred route study and environmental documentation was completed in 2020. This would allow the Texas Department of Transportation to begin acquisition of right of way and construction.
This groundbreaking is set to mark the beginning of a new chapter in Lubbock's transportation goal. The idea is to improve mobility and safety in what TxDOT calls "one of the county's fastest growing areas."
This is also make the idea of a Lubbock Outer Route more concrete.
