Lubbock Coronado High School is celebrating their 50th year Anniversary and the celebration kicks off this evening with the first ever Coronado Homecoming Parade!

Coronado High School will kick off Homecoming week this evening with a homecoming parade on 34th Street to celebrate the school’s fiftieth year.

The school opened in the fall of 1965, making the Class of 2015, this year’s seniors, the 50th graduating class.  To celebrate the anniversary, the Coronado Band, Football Booster Club and Student Council are organizing the first homecoming parade in school history.

“This will be the first of an annual school tradition,” Student Council sponsor Brent Chamberlain said.

The parade will circle the school and football field, ending in the newly completed parking lot in front of the school.  School organizations have been encouraged to enter floats and marching units in the parade.

So far, a number of groups have already committed to participate in the parade which will have a theme celebrating the school’s opening in 1965.  The parade will be led by the award winning Mustang band, floats, and homecoming court will be highlighted in vehicles.  Among the groups participating will also be Cheer, Pom, Athletics, Student Media, Student Council and a variety of clubs and organizations.

Homecoming week will culminate on Friday, September 12 at Plains Capital Park when the Coronado Mustangs meet the San Angelo Lakeview Chiefs at 8 p.m.  It will be the third contest for the Coronado varsity squad in the 2014 season under new head coach Seth Parr.

Students, parents, alumni and community members are encouraged to attend the parade on Monday night and cheer on the Mustangs Friday night during Homecoming Week.
