BTS Make History With First Top Duo/Group Nomination at 2019 Billboard Music Awards
BTS just made history yet again—and this accomplishment is HUGE!
The group was nominated for two Billboard Music Awards on Thursday morning (April 2), including Top Duo/Group, which they will face off against Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons, Panic at the Disco, and Dan + Shay.
RM, Jin, Jimin, Suga, J-Hope, V, and Jungkook were also nominated for Top Social Artist—the same award they won at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. This year, they're up against GOT7, EXO, Ariana Grande, and Louis Tomlinson.
Other nominees for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards include Cardi B, who's leading with 21 nominations in 18 categories, Drake, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, and Post Malone.
Within minutes of the announcement, the hashtags #BTSBillboardTopGroup and #BTSBillboardTopSocia, as well as the phrase "BTS Paved the Way," started trending worldwide on Twitter. Of course, the band's loyal A.R.M.Y immediately took to the social media to share their feelings about the BBMA nominations.
According to Newsweek.com, the phrase "comes from a fan-wide understanding that BTS’ break into global fandom has and will pave the way for other K-pop groups who crave western exposure"—and to be honest, we literally could not agree more. Have you seen their accomplishments in 2019 so far? Not only did they get a shout-out on The Simpsons, but the boys landed their first-ever EW cover, will perform on Saturday Night Live, as well as announced a new album and a stadium tour that has outsold artists like the Rolling Stones, Cardi B, and more.
2019 just keeps getting better and better for BTS!
