University of Texas linebacker Jake Ehlinger, the younger brother of former Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger, was found dead Thursday, May 6th.

USA Today reports that Austin Police said they responded to a call just after 12:20 pm and found Jake at a residence in the 1200 block of West 22nd Street. Beyond that nothing is really known.

Authorities have not revealed in what state they found him or the cause of death, only that the circumstances were not considered suspicious. Zero details have been given.

Jake Ehlinger played wide receiver at the Austin high school Westlake, where his brother Sam had been the star quarterback. The younger brother joined Sam at the University of Texas in 2019 and had been there the previous two seasons but hadn't seen any playing time.

Brian Davis of the Austin American Statesman and hookem.com says that Sam Ehlinger is currently in Indianapolis with his new team but is working to fly back to Austin to be with his family.

Ehlinger was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the NFL draft Saturday.

Current and former Longhorn players have been reacting to the terrible news on Twitter:

The owner of the Colts, Sam's new team, took a moment to pay his respects as well.

This is certainly terrible news for not only the Ehlinger family but for the Texas Longhorns who wrapped up their spring practice just recently.

Thoughts and prayers go out to both Texas and the Family of Jake Ehlinger.
