After 61 Years of Continuous Play, Lubbock’s Caprock Classic Is Canceled This Year
After 61 years of continuous, consecutive basketball tournaments, the Fibermax Caprock Classic has canceled their competition for 2020.
According to their Facebook page, they have every intention of holding the tourney next year as per usual:
For 2020 only, Lubbock Caprock AMBUCS is hosting an online fundraiser in place of The Fibermax Caprock Classic. All the proceeds from the event will help Lubbock Caprock AMBUCS provide mobility and independence for people with disabilities! In 2021, the tournament will be played on Dec 29-31 in local high school gyms and the championships at LCU.
While the loss of the tournament is reason enough for disappointment, the event raises money for AMBUCS every year, which is a huge loss to children and adults with disabilities. However, there are still fun ways to support AMBUCS mission through the Caprock Classic, even without the games.
One way to support the event is to purchase raffle tickets for an assortment of really exciting prizes -- everything from cottonseed for local farmers to gym memberships, personal experiences with talented sports figures, and fun odds and ends like gift baskets. Personally, I purchased a ticket for the hot sauce basket because I live for spicy food. Their website takes PayPal, so purchasing my ticket was a breeze and I feel good knowing I am helping folks increase their mobility and independence.
To support Caprock Classic and AMBUCS, head over to the official website to donate or purchase a raffle ticket.
