Chairman of the Texas House committee investigating the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas and Lubbock lawmaker Dustin Burrows says that he will be releasing the footage taken of the hallway during the incident.

Back on May 24th, an 18-year-old shooter killed 21 people, 19 students and 2 teachers, inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Texas DPS Director Col. Steve McCraw would later call the law enforcement response an "abject failure."

According to Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, he was waiting to receive keys to unlock a classroom door before breaching the room and killing the shooter. McCraw, however, says that while the door was technically locked, it's strike plate wasn't properly functional, meaning officers could have entered without waiting for keys. KAMC News reports that Arredondo was placed on leave and resigned from his new city council position soon after the incident. Col. McCraw accused Arredondo of "placing the lives of officers before the lives of children."

Surveillance footage of the hallway outside of the classroom the shooter was killed in lasts around 77 minutes. The footage apparently doesn't depict any violence or images of children since it was outside of a classroom. The footage also doesn't have audio.

Rep. Burrows requested permission to release the footage from Texas DPS in a letter, but the Uvalde District Attorney objected. Despite this, Burrows said he will release it after the Committee convenes in Uvalde on Sunday, July 17th. There, he will give an opportunity for the community to see the video first.
