A Fox Affiliate Got Pranked, and Reported the Names of the Asiana Pilots as “Sum Ting Wong” and “Bang Ding Ow” [VIDEO]
We have come a long way since the 80's and the access that the Internet provides and the shenanigans hackers are up to have far surpassed that of anything imaginable especially when it comes to PRANKS!
One of the most EPIC in TV news went down at San Francisco's Fox affiliate, KTVU on Friday. And someone had better be getting fired for this.
An anchorwoman named Tori Campbellannounced that the NTSB had released the names of the four pilots in the Asiana Airlines flight that crashed last week. And the four names appeared on screen as she read them out loud.
They were: Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Bang Ding Ow and Ho Lee Fuk.
Check it out:
Obviously, those weren't really the pilots' names. They're part of the grand and racist tradition of making up Asian-sounding names from English words.
But it's pretty amazing they made it on the air and that Campbell didn't realize what she was saying.
KTVU almost Immediately issued an apology but blamed the NTSB and said they confirmed the names. The NTSB blamed that on a summer intern! Again, someone is getting fired over this, we just don't know who yet.
Meanwhile, Asiana Airlines announced yesterday they're considering taking legal action against KTVU over this for damaging their reputatuions
That's right: Asiana thinks a rookie pilot crashing a plane and killing people didn't hurt their reputation but a local news station reporting a few fake pilot names DID.
