No. 8 Texas Tech Men’s Basketball Falls to Iowa State at Home
The no. 8 Texas Tech men's basketball team took on the Iowa State Cyclones in a home matchup on Wednesday night. A double-double from Jarrett Culver was not enough to carry the Red Raiders to a win as they fell 68-64 for their first loss in conference play.
In the first half, the Red Raiders played a little too aggressive allowing the Cyclones to shoot twelve free throws, which they converted nine of. Iowa State would finish the first half on a 16-4 run giving them the 41 to 33 lead at the half, which they would hold on to for nearly all of the game.
Texas Tech came out in the second half attempting to cut the deficit, however, every time they would get close, Iowa State would have an answer for them. Jarrett Culver would cap a 7-0 run and tie the game at 61 with a beautiful eruostep in the paint.
Iowa State would answer with big shot after big shot and pull away with the lead to defeat the Red Raiders at home 68 to 64.
Jarrett Culver finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds in the ball game. Davide "The Italian Stallion" Moretti finished with 10 points in 38 minutes of action. Tariq Owens continued to be a force down low as he had 7 boards and 3 blocks in the loss.
Coming up next, Texas Tech (15-2, 4-1 Big 12) will return to action at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 19th against Baylor in Waco. The Bears (10-6, 2-2 Big 12) are coming off a 73-69 win over Oklahoma State on Monday.
