Most of the places I enjoyed as a kid growing up in Lubbock are still around today and are just as popular as they always were. We lost Discovery Zone years ago, which is still kind of a bummer, but there are plenty of other great places to take your kids out for a memorable night of fun in Lubbock.

Most of my friends have several children at this point, and I'm kind of the odd man out. That doesn't stop us from getting together for dinner from time to time, and if I'm honest, I love arcade games just as much, if not more, than the kids do. Here are a few places to take the kids where you can either have a drink while they play, or feed them for free, right here in the hub city.

50th Street Caboose

I used to absolutely live for taking my report card there to get tokens when I was little. My brother and I would play games for hours while my parents ate enchiladas and had a few drinks. It was the perfect place to go and we were always inspired to do better at school so we would have more chances to win prizes with straight As.

Joe's Crab Shack

I remember when Joe's Crab Shack opened in Lubbock. We used to have a blast in the play area while we waited for dinner to be ready, which gave the adults the perfect opportunity to kick back and watch us swing around like monkeys while enjoying a drink. They also have reasonably priced seafood that's usually pretty tasty.

Main Event

Going to Main Event for dinner, bowling and arcade games is a pretty sweet treat for most kids. My little sisters used to beg my parents to go there all the time. It can get a little pricey, but everyone needs to let loose and spend some cash. It's a great spot for birthday parties and, yes, beer.

Chuck E. Cheese

This one is a no-brainer. Kids friggin' love Chuck E. Cheese. I've had a few birthday parties there in my life. The pizza isn't anything special, but kids will eat pretty much anything if it means they get to play games and horse around on a jungle gym with their friends.

Adventure Park

I haven't had the chance to check out Adventure Park yet, but I've heard nothing but good things. It looks like they basically have it all and I should probably find a good excuse to go soon.

Thunder Zone Family Fun

This looks like a great place to take the kids. They are only open on the weekends, but they have go-karts, cosmic golf, lazer tag, and arcade games. What more could you ask for? Family 4-packs there start at $89, which sounds like a pretty great deal to me.

Slim Chickens

Kids actually eat for free on Sundays, which is always a great thing. You won't find any booze in there, but free food for your kid? That's even better than tequila.

Firehouse Subs

This is another spot that offers free meals for kids on Sundays. If you've never had a sub from Firehouse, you'd better get your booty of there quick. They are hella tasty and put Subway to shame.
