This 4th of July will be different for many people simply because for most of the state there won't be any fireworks. But I've compiled a few lists of some facts and fun things to do for the fourth.

First the important part, the drinks!

STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER

·       1 part blue-raspberry vodka, 2 parts sour mix, fill with lemonade and top off with a cherry

·       Make a non-alcoholic version with raspberry-flavored fruit juice

THE PATRIOT

·       Red cherry-flavored vodka and 7-Up, garnish with some orange slices.

·       Make a non-alcoholic version with cherry-flavored fruit juice

Of course you can make any drink you like patriotic just by splashing Grenadine, or Blue Curacao into almost anything. And nothing is more American than good ole beer. Be safe and drink responsibly, we want to see you on the 5th.

Next since there won't be any fireworks this year how about making it a family movie night with some truly butt-kicking American movies.

MIRACLE

  • Kurt Russell plays the coach in the movie about the 1980 U-S Olympic hockey team. We guarantee it will have you believing in miracles.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

  • I remember seeing this in the theater when it was released July 4th and at the end the whole audience stood up and applauded. Plus its really funny too.

TOP GUN

  • Tom Cruise before all the Scientology weirdness, and some awesome flight scenes. GOOSE!

ROCKY

  • Yes, Rocky has had a million sequels… But don’t forget that “Rocky’s” epic final fight scene in the first film takes place on the 4th of July! Its the movie that started them all, and unfortunately didn't end them all. But up through #3 you're good, and this one is the original.

Of course it wouldn't me the 4th of July without a sweet playlist.

Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA"

From the Austin Powers movie, Lenny Kravitz "American Woman" with Heather Graham.

JTX "Love In America"

And of course Katy Perry "Firework"

And finally on to a little flag etiquette. It seems that every year we paste the flag on more and more useless crap just so someone can sell someone else some more useless crap. I don't care how much you love America, wiping your mouth with an American flag napkin isn't the way to show your patriotism. So here are a few tips you might want to remember this 4th of July, and well, for all the other patriotic holidays we celebrate.

1. Display the flag only between sunrise and sunset on buildings and stationary flag poles. The flag may be displayed for 24 hours only if it’s lit up in the darkness.

2. Do not display the flag in bad weather. A little rain or drizzle is ok, but most in lightning storms you're not going to want to be around a metal flagpole anyway.

3. Whether displaying the flag vertically or horizontally, make sure the canton of stars is visible on the upper left-hand side.

4. Do not let the flag touch the ground.

5. Any flag that is damaged and worn and can no longer be displayed and should be burned in a dignified way.

6. When not on display, the flag should be respectfully folded into a triangle, symbolizing the tricorn hats worn by colonial soldiers in the Revolutionary War.

That's all for now, have a safe and awesome holiday!
