The 37th Annual Candlelight at the Ranch will take place December 11 & 12, 2015 at the National Ranching & Heritage Center, located at 3121 4th St. in Lubbock.

Taking us back to how Christmas looked in West Texas in the 18th and 19th centuries, thousands of luminaries light the paths which wind through the historical structures at the Texas Tech University National Ranching Heritage Center.

Volunteers dress in period clothing and recreate scenes of trimming Christmas trees, playing traditional music and gathering around a campfire on a cold Christmas night.

Children can visit with Santa Claus, and hot apple cider and hot cocoa will be available in the General Store. Although this is a free event, a $2 donation is encouraged.

A nostalgic look back to how it was in the old days may make us wistful for the way things used to be -- or make us grateful that we have the conveniences that we have now.
