Our six radio stations participated in a Light Up Lubbock contest to award a new 55-inch 4K TV to the person with the holiday light display that knocked our socks off. After looking through entries and deliberating, we've made our choice.

Heather Swissler had a most glorious display of holiday decorations and Christmas cheer at her home. The green and red lights, coupled with the modest use of trim lights and colorful lawn displays hit the Yuletide spot. As a result, Heather will see a brand-new 4K TV under her Christmas tree.

When we contacted Heather with the good news, she said simply: "Y'all just made my year!!"

This was a tough choice, and it was clear that Lubbock loves to participate in the holiday season. Even though this year has been tough on our city, with people losing jobs and many others losing loved ones to COVID-19, we're all still pushing forward and trying to celebrate the season of goodwill as best as we can.

Driving around and looking at the beautiful light displays in Lubbock this year has been different from all of the others. I used to go with my grandparents when I was little, and I know many people with similar childhood stories lost their grandparents this year to the terrible disease. I think they would be proud of us for moving ahead, stringing those lights up on the house, and not letting it ruin the holiday magic for the children in our community.

Thank you to everyone who entered the contest and provided a little extra cheer during a difficult year. And a great big thanks to our sponsors who helped make this all possible.
