8:25 a.m. - Odessa, Texas - 13 years ago

It was a rare occasion that my husband woke up early to take our son to pre-school instead of me having to do it, but on this day he did and I was the one that got to sleep in. I was grateful for this opportunity as I had worked late the night before doing an event for the radio station I was employed with.

But at 8:25 a.m. after my husband returned from taking Jake to school, he came into our bedroom and turned on the TV and woke me up. I looked at the time and became immediately frustrated that he would be so inconsiderate to blare the TV in our room instead of watching TV in another room. While verbalizing said frustrations to my husband, I looked at the TV through half-opened eyes and saw two skyscrapers on fire.

Sitting in my bed at my house on 46th street in Odessa, TX is where I was 'when the world stopped turning' on that Tuesday morning - September 11th, 2001.

My husband explained to me that he was listening to a radio program as he drove Jake to school and back home again that stated an airplane had flown into the World Trade Center, and that he understood it to be a horrible accident.

As we sat in our bed and watched the news we started to hear other stories that this wasn't an accident at all and that a plane had also crashed into the Pentagon.

I picked up the phone and called my mother and asked if she was watching the news. She wasn't, so I explained what we knew so far.

Then, at 8:59 a.m., we watched in horror as the South Tower collapsed.

I got out of bed and got dressed, as I knew I needed to get to the radio station and get to work broadcasting this nightmare to our listeners, but before I could get out the door, The North Tower collapsed at 9:28 a.m.

Now, 13 years later, I can still see in my mind's eye that which I saw on the television in 2001. I can still hear the hint of panic in the news anchor's voice as he was just as scared as the rest of us but had no choice but to report the events as they were unfolding. I can still feel the unbelievable pain in my heart that I felt that day from watching the innocent men, women and children die by the hands of terrorist.

I will never forget.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
