12-Year-Old Boy Shot & Killed at McDonald’s Drive-Thru in Lubbock
Thursday night (Feb. 8), police responded to a call about a shooting in the drive-thru lane at the McDonald's restaurant at 50th Street and I-27.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, a 12-year-old male, later identified by Everything Lubbock as Damion Cortez, was shot by a sibling inside a vehicle that had pulled up to the restaurant's drive-thru. Six family members were inside the vehicle when the shot was fired. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the fatal shooting was accidental. It's unclear if charges will be filed against the unnamed suspect. Police have yet to reveal how the suspect acquired the gun or why they had it in the car at the time of the shooting.
