Now that Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror, it's time to prepare the house for Christmas with a great Christmas tree. There are only a handful of Christmas tree farms located in and near West Texas.

If you're looking to cut down your own tree while supporting a West Texas business, look no further than Post, Texas, where, for just $40, you can have your pick of the litter at the Double Shovel Christmas Tree Farm.

Charlie and Jan Webb's place is located at 1391 County Road 183 on Highway 84. The farm specializes in drought-resistant Afghan Pines. The Christmas tree farm's hours of operation are Monday through Thursday by appointment only, Friday 2-5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can call them at (806) 632-8728 to schedule your visit if you want to get in early.

If you're closer to San Angelo, the Concho Christmas Tree Farm is located at 22310 Toe Nail Trail in Christoval.

Abilene residents have a couple choices nearby: Childress Ag Enterprises, located at 11028 County Road 452 in Cottonwood, and Millican's Heritage Christmas Tree Farm at 14683 County Road 420 in Cisco.

Of course, you could go to a local garden supply store or nursery and purchase a live tree, but not only will you pay the fee, but you'll have to find room for the pot and all in your home. The big upside to this is the fact that after Christmas you can plant the tree in your yard for enjoyment year around!

Places like Sparkman's Nursery have a nice selection of pines, including the Colorado Blue Spruce.

If you are going out of town for Christmas or don't live in West Texas, this Texas Christmas Trees website will help you find a Christmas tree farm anywhere in the great state of Texas.
