With the nighttime temps going below freezing, it is a good idea, and the law, to turn off your irrigation/sprinkler systems.

The City of Lubbock says that if the weather is below 35 degrees it is supposed to be off, period, no exceptions.

If you are caught running a system when it is below 35 you can get a citation.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! (Sorry for sounding like a TV pitchman!)

If water from your system hits a public street, freezes, and then causes an accident, you are on the hook. (And believe me, the insurance companies will come after you!)

And in that case, you get a ticket and have to pay for damages.

So do the right thing and turn your sprinklers off!
