A nothing says Easter like a new outfit, big dinner and of course plaenty of chocolate and a basket full of Peeps!

Those multicolorored marshmellow chicken's or birds... whatever they are that despite the odd consistencey and flavor people gobble them up by the BILLIONS not just a at Easter but year round.

Here are some random facts on Peeps  (Read the Huffington Post's full article HERE).

The first Peep took 27 hours to make - it was hand-squeezed by a pastry piper.  It now only takes 6 minutes.

5 MILLION Peeps are made every day in the Just Born Inc. factory in Bethlehem, Pa.

2 BILLION Peeps are produced annually.

In 1953, Peeps made their debut - and they had wings!  Well... they tried to make them look like wings, but basically they looked like chubby chicks.  In 1955, the wings were removed to give them a "sleek, modern look."

Matthew Pye, VP of Trade Relations and Corporate Affairs at the Peep factory says that one of the best ways to enjoy a Peep is warm after being cooked over an open flame.  (But be careful!  The sugar is flammable)

Each Peep is 28 calories (or 140 calories in a pack of 5)

Gelatin, liquid sugar, corn syrup and lots of sugar go into making the famous Easter treats.  Air is pumped in to give them the fluffiness.

There are entire websites dedicated to recipes involving Peeps

About 75% of people prefer their Peeps fresh and soft.  About 25% of people prefer them "aged" (stale).

A single pack of 5 peeps is a whopping 34 grams of sugar.  Dang.

515 people were asked "which public person or celebrity most resembles a Peep?" 26.8% of the people asked said Drew Carey.
