Texas Tech vs TCU - October 11, 2018

A sloppy, back-and-forth first half for both teams that saw just 10 points between them gave way to...well, more of the same in the second half. But when the dust settled in Fort Worth, the Red Raiders toppled the Horned Frogs, 17-14.

Despite pre-game rumbles about the return of McLane Carter (injured during the Ole Miss game) or True Freshman Alan Bowman (injured during the West Virginia game) and a game of brain chess between both head coaches, Texas Tech's third-string QB, Jett Duffey, got his first start.

The two teams traded turnovers and penalties throughout the matchup. In many ways, both Texas Tech and TCU were their own worst enemies.

But there was no bigger enemy of good football than TCU quarterback Shawn Robinson, who inexplicably dropped the ball to end the game. Just flat out dropped it. Amazing. I really can't even comprehend why he just flails with his ball hand. Even the person who runs Texas Tech Football's Twitter account could only muster a single word in response to TCU's final play of the game.

Watch it for yourself:

The star of the matchup was undoubtedly the Texas Tech defense, who allowed a cool seven points per half. There was pressure, good coverage and solid tackling all over the field.

Kliff Kingsbury, as a head coach, has struggled to win this exact game his entire tenure at Texas Tech: A defensive battle where the offense does just enough to finish the game.

Finish is the motto, after all.

Jett Duffey, who was bad for large stretches of the game, did just enough late in the fourth quarter to give Texas Tech the lead with a 38-yard quarterback draw straight up the gut:

It wasn't good, or pretty, but Texas Tech advances to 4-2 overall, and 2-1 in the Big 12, with a bowl game berth now on the horizon.
