There's nothing better in sports than the sudden slap of the walk-off home run. The game could go on an eternity, and it ends in an instant. Baseball doesn't have a clock like other sports, so it's the only sport where you can truly end regulation with a single moment.

Texas Tech had its first walk-off home run since 2015, courtesy of Zach Rheams, who pounded a ball out of Security Bank Ballpark in Midland Tuesday night (April 3) to beat the New Mexico State Aggies 2-1.

The last walk-off home run was Orland Garcia's shot against Baylor in the 12th inning of a 2015 game -- bonus points for extra-inning walk-off.

Ryan Sublette, a freshman righty, got the start for Texas Tech and pitched well. Sublette allowed the only run of the game, tossing 3.2 innings with one strikeout. Fellow freshman Kurt Wilson got the win with a flawless 9th inning, striking out two Aggies.

The Texas Tech bullpen allowed just one hit over the final 5.1 innings, combining for seven strikeouts.

Offensively, the Red Raiders weren't great but they tied the game on a seventh inning RBI single from junior catcher Zayne Willems. After a lead-off double from junior infielder Cameron Warren was barely held in the park by the top of the left field wall.

The Aggies would finish the night with seven hits, making it only the fourth time this season Tech was out-hit by an opponent.

The Red Raiders return to Big 12 play at Kansas on April 6-8 at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence.
