Let me start by saying every review I do is honest, and from my heart, because I take good food very seriously. I paid for my food and was in no way reimbursed and they had no idea I was writing a review when I visited.

I am always on the hunt for delicious Mexican, Tex-Mex and sometimes even Cali-Mex style food.

Central Lubbock's Taqueria Autlan provides them all, in a friendly, laid back atmosphere. And they have pan dulce. And beer. I did not have either this time, simply because I had just given blood and didn't need to either be on the ceiling or the floor. In the past I've had Micheladas that were a refreshing treat. I get them made with Dos Equis and they are phenomenal. The pan dulce I've had here in the past has always been fresh and yummy.

One of Taqueria Autlan's features that sets it apart from the rest is its phenomenal salsa bar.

It features five homemade and very unique salsas, several brands of hot sauce, spices and marinated jalapenos. I always eat my weight in chips just to get in as many tastes of the salsa as possible. One of the green sauces is crazy, awesomely spicy, but I'll let find out which one yourself. It's an adventure!

This time, I ordered one of my favorite So-Cal foods: Carne Asada Fries. You can get them all over the place in Los Angeles, but you have to hunt for them here.

Taqueria Autlan does them just the way they are supposed to be: Decadent, savory and super filling.

Also, I managed to take the most gorgeous picture of food ever. This was my actual plate of fries. I already miss them and want them back. I split them with another person, as the portions are generous here.

Another food I would recommend is their steaming fresh Caldos.

The guy at the table next to me ordered one and I had a bit of plate envy. I order them sometimes as they are incredible hangover cures. (What? I'm human.)

The service is always friendly, the booths clean and comfortable. They are open every day and with extended hours most days. On weekend nights they have street tacos and aqua frescas outside. Price-wise it's average to slightly below average - always a great deal for the quality you get. If you're lucky, there may even be live music when you go. The last time I went a gentleman was singing and playing traditional Mexican songs on the guitar and it was an absolutely beautiful experience.

Taqueria Autlan is located at 2722 50th St, across from the shopping center with Ross and CiCi's pizza.
