Blood Moons are kind of special to me, and this next one should be special to everybody in the United States.

So there's all kinds of space/moon geek stuff here. Let's start with the fact that we'll have a "supermoon" which just means it's when the moon is closest to the earth. Add to that a full lunar eclipse, which gives the moon it's "blood moon" status, sometimes making it look like it has a faint reddish color.

So you wanna make this a little spookier? It's also a "Wolf Moon".  Put all this together and it's the optimum time for werewolves from outer space.  Okay, I guess I have to say that last part isn't true because anytime is an optimum time for werewolves from outer space.

If you're still with me, you can catch this big bag of lunar fun in its various stages between about 9:30 and 11:45 on the night of January 20th.  Would you like more info from somebody who doesn't include space werewolves in his science blog? Then visit Earthsky.org
