Texas Tech OF Stephen Smith was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after hitting .571 on opening weekend in a series win over Milwaukee.

Smith joins Eric Gutierrez as the only players on this team to have Player of the Week honors, with Gutierrez winning in both 2015 and twice in 2014. Smith piled on the stat sheet with seven runs, four doubles, five RBIs, two stolen bases, an .857 slugging percentage and a .684 on-base percentage. Ridiculous.

If Smith can have multiple weekends like this in Big 12 play, the Red Raiders could be very dangerous this season.

Smith enjoyed the stellar weekend after breaking out on opening day and staying hot. He was 4 for 5 on opening day with three doubles. He was the first Tech player since 1987 to hit three doubles on the first day of the season.

Smith and the Red Raiders hit the road on Wednesday to face Sam Houston and then will travel to Houston for the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
