The Internet’s sudden, meteoric rise has really opened the doors of communication between fan and celebrity, and with that comes unending criticism as well as unbridled hate, sometimes for the most benign reason, often lobbed without warning at any famous person with a Twitter account. But sometimes, the resulting tweets are funny, in all their over-the-top mean-spiritedness. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel saw an opportunity for a segment somewhere within the practice of hitting celebs with rude, unprompted comments, and so “Mean Tweets” was born.

The segment sees a celebrity guest seated in front of a camera, where they then read off a mean tweet about themselves and react accordingly. This latest installment is geared only toward music artists and sees jabs at Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Little Big Town, Ricky Martin, Josh Groban and a slew of others.

Meghan Trainor is like if the sassy girl you used to work with at Express just randomly had a singing career,” read Trainor, who is now in possession of a Grammy.

Gwen Stefani‘s new boo, Blake Shelton, was given a more expletive-filled retaliation to read that said, “If I could choose to punch one piece of sh—t in the face it would be Blake Shelton f—k that bloated a—hole.”

Another tweet took aim at Drake, one of Canada’s most obvious musical triumphs: “Drake looks like a ferret with a baby afro.”

One Direction, meanwhile, were served with a relatively safe insult about their clothes. Niall read, “I don’t understand the world’s obsession with One Direction. What is attractive about little boys with gross hair and skinny jeans.”

Saving the best for last, Marcus Mumford read a tweet — that was likely repurposed from this tweet about Meghan Trainor — that read: “I love how music takes you away to another place. Like, Mumford & Sons is playing at this restaurant so now I’m going to another restaurant.”
