Two Cousins Plotted Together in Halloween Homicide Case

New details have emerged in this year’s Halloween homicides case in Lubbock.

An arrest warrant released on November 16 for David Bethel indicated Bethel conspired to kill Shawn Summers, a man he believed had an intimate relationship with Jessica Payton, the girlfriend of Bethel’s cousin Mark Bethel.

According to court documents, Mark and David Bethel used a woman named Kris Brinkley to lure Summers into a trap.

Brinkley baited Summers to meet her under the premise of sexual favors.

On Halloween weekend, Summers and Payton were found dead. Payton had gunshot wounds to the head.

Mark Bethel, who was arrested in the days following the crime, is being charged for the murder of both victims, and David Bethel is being charged for the murder of Summers.

Charges have not been brought on the third party, Kris Brinkley, at this time.
