The two people who died in a fatal head-on crash on Marsha Sharp Freeway late Monday night (Nov. 7) have been identified by the Lubbock Police Department.

According to Everything Lubbock, 25-year-old Brooke Parker and 36-year-old Louis Marquez were both killed in the collision. Both Parker and Marquez were the only ones in their cars.

The accident happened after Marquez reportedly drove his car the wrong way on Marsha Sharp Freeway near University Ave. He collided head-on with a car driven by Parker. It's yet unclear why Marquez was traveling the wrong way on the road.

Both Parker and Marquez were pronounced dead at the scene.

Lubbock-Cooper ISD released the following statement on the death of Parker, who worked as an Athletic Trainer at Lubbock-Cooper High School, to Everything Lubbock:

The students, staff, and administration of Lubbock-Cooper ISD are deeply saddened to learn of Brooke Parker's passing. As an Athletic Trainer, Brooke played a vital role in the everyday lives of students at Lubbock-Cooper High School. She excelled at her ability to care for student athletes physically and emotionally, and was best known for the compassion she showed for all students. Brooke's ever-present smile and lively personality will be greatly missed. The Lubbock-Cooper Pirate family extends our deepest condolences and prayers to Brooke's loved ones during this difficult time.

Lubbock authorities continue to investigate the accident.
