Three years ago, 10-year-old Luke Siegel and his family made local headlines when Luke suffered serious injuries in a golf cart accident that would prove to be life-altering.

The young boy was promptly treated at University Medical Center for severe head trauma and a brain injury, and has continued to undergo physical therapy ever since.

Luke’s father, Tim Siegel, was a prominent tennis coach at Texas Tech for over 23 years and resigned from his position just a few weeks before his son’s accident. Tim and his family have since worked tirelessly to better Luke’s health and in 2017 founded the Team Luke Foundation to offer support to other families dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic brain injury.

On Monday, The Siegel Family posted on social media that Luke had fallen off the side of a curb while in his wheelchair and suffered various injuries, including a brain bleed on the left side of his head. According to Luke’s sister, Alex, he underwent a five-hour surgery to treat the brain bleed at 12 a.m. and also received a blood transfusion.

Luke's family said he was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning. He now has a steady heart rate and woke up. His family says he will continue to be monitored in PICU for the time being.
