Safeco Insurance on Thursday released a study of "Top 10 U.S. Cities with the Shortest Commutes to Work". Safeco notes the list is of midsize cities.

Three Texas cities placed in the top-10: Lubbock, Amarillo and Bryan-College Station.

Lubbock hit Safeco's top spot on the list. Here's part of their reasoning:

With a population of 294,530 and an average daily commute of 16 minutes, Lubbock is our top pick for drivers who prefer to spend less time sitting behind the wheel. Unlike larger metropolitan cities, such as Dallas and Houston, life here moves at a slower pace—but fortunately that doesn’t apply to the traffic. Lubbock, the birthplace of legendary singer Buddy Holly, is known as the Hub City, serving as the economic and health care center (of the South Plains).

The Fargo-Moorehead area of North Dakota/Minnesota placed second on the list. It was followed by Champaign-Urbana, Illinois; Lincoln, Nebraska and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Amarillo placed sixth on the Safeco list.  Amarillo's average commute time was pegged at less than 19 minutes.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa came in seventh on the Safeco list followed by the Bryan-College Station metro area.  The Bryan-College Station area, otherwise known as Aggieland, is the home to Texas A&M University. Safeco's study found the average commute time in Aggieland to be 19 minutes.
