According to the National Weather Service, a flood warning for central Lubbock County is in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday night (May 14).

A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect until 11 p.m. for Lubbock County, as well as the following 11 counties: Cochran, Crosby, Dickens, Garza, Hockley, Kent, King, Lynn, Stonewall, Terry and Yoakum.

The NWS has received multiple reports of flooding through Lubbock, including reports of drivers stranded in their vehicles.

The Doppler radar shows that rainfall of one to two inches, with hourly rates of four to five inches, is expected. Areas that are prone to flooding are: Lubbock; Ransom Canyon; downtown Lubbock; the South Plains Mall; Texas Tech University; and Lubbock Science Spectrum.

The NWS urges drivers to avoid flooded roadways.
