Kliff Kingsbury has confirmed offensive lineman Justin Murphy has left the Texas Tech football program.

Kingsbury told the media at Texas Tech's weekly Monday press conference that Murphy had left the team due to recent injuries.

"He decided he didn't want to continue his football career," said Kingsbury. The decision was made by Murphy on Sunday.

When pressed if Murphy's departure was a "medical retirement," Kingsbury wryly said he "wasn't sure how you would phrase it."

According to Texas Tech, the 6-foot-6, 310-pound sophomore lineman appeared in five games in the 2015 season with four starts, including his career start against UTEP, before being injured during the Baylor game. Murphy didn't return during that season.

Viva the Matador reports that Murphy suffered two additional injuries this season: one to a shoulder, the other to a knee.
