Naya Rivera is in "hot water" over showering comments made recently on The View, saying that frequent showering is such a "white people thing". Naya said that "...white people shower a lot more than ethnics. I feel like showering once a day or every day is such a white people thing." What?!?

Naya's mother is half-black, half-Puerto Rican but showers every day. Naya is also married to a white man [Ryan Dorsey] who she indicates showers a LOT, like two to three times a day (which does seem a bit excessive). Naya however, showers once every three days, as recommended by a study she read. Is the study accurate? Actually, it may be!

Personally, I need a shower first thing in the morning to feel like a normal person. If I don't shower, I'm in a "funk" all day. Furthermore, I just feel that showering any less than once a day is simply gross. However, recent studies suggest that we've been duped by clever marketing and that folks in this country shower more often than necessary.

"Toilet Soap" advertising became prevalent in the US after the Civil War and Americans were simply more susceptible than European's to advertising for soap's use on the body.

Medically speaking, many dermatologists agree that showering too often may do more harm than good as frequent hot water exposure along with detergents found in body washes can dry out and irritate the skin and argue that early exposure to dirt and bacteria may actually protect you from allergies and eczema as you age.

Doctors suggest washing the dirtiest/grossest parts of your body, under the arms and face and places below the belt daily with a soapy wash cloth or cleansing towelette, but holding off on full showering to...you guessed it...about once every three days!

So, I'm curious- how often do you shower. Be brave, be honest, and take the poll below!
