An 18-year-old girl was found dead inside a home in Idalou Wednesday morning (Feb. 10).

The deceased girl has been identified as Holli Jeffcoat. She had been stabbed.

According to the Lubbock Sheriff's Office, a fire was set at the scene of the crime in an effort to hide what happened.

"Whoever is responsible for this attempted to conceal the crime with fire," said LSO Lieutenant Bryan Taylor [quote via Everything Lubbock]. "Right now, we don't believe this to be random."

Idalou ISD Superintendent Jim Waller confirmed that Jeffcoat was a student at an Idalou ISD high school. Waller released the following statement to the media:

It is with deep sadness that we inform you about the tragic loss of one of our High School students early this morning.  Our hearts and thoughts go out to the student’s family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this loss.  To help each of us deal with this loss the members of the district crisis response team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel, are present to provide support, comfort, and reassurance to students who need support.  I ask that the community of Idalou once again pull together and support the students and parents during this time of tragedy.

Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies are investigating. No arrests have been made.
