A Hale County man was sentenced to six months in prison for interstate communications with intent to extort.

KAMC News reports David Trotter was originally under investigation for receipt of child pornography, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge back in May.

Court records say Trotter admitted that he took a phone that belonged to an underage family member and used the phone, posing as a girl, to get explicit pictures of a teenage boy. Trotter said he was going to use the pictures as blackmail to stop the boy from communicating with the girl. He also expressed a sexual interest in the underage girl, which is why he was attempting to blackmail the boy.

In addition to the prison time, Trotter is ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
