The Houston Astros have been somewhat quiet during the MLB offseason so far. One of their biggest needs would be behind the plate to pair after having three catchers head to free agency.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 4th) they decided to add to the backstop, announcing they would be signing a former Texas Ranger catcher to a one year deal.

Chirinos hit .222 for the Rangers last season with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs, both career highs.

He and Astros catcher Max Stassi will be replacing the trio of, Brian McCann, Martin Maldonado, and Evan Gattis, as all became free agents this season. McCann signed with his former team, the Atlanta Braves late in November.
