When the Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan fired his offensive coordinator early in the year after a loss to the Jets, he promoted the running back Anthony Lynn to fill the void.

Lynn, a former Red Raider running back, took the job and ran with it, producing the league leading run game with a lackluster talent in the passing game.

Lynn's job title changed again last week when Rex Ryan was fired as head coach. Lynn stepped in as the "Interim" Head Coach for the remainder of the season.

Don't be fooled by the Interim tag though, Lynn is a proven NFL coach with playing and coaching pedigree to back it up.

According to Sportsline host Steve Dale, Lynn is the first Red Raider to hold the position of Offensive Coordinator, let alone Head Coach in the NFL.

Lynn played at Texas Tech from 1989 to 1991, gaining over 800 yards in his junior season. In total, Lynn rushed for 1,972 yards before injuries derailed his college career.

After going undrafted in the 1992 NFL draft, Lynn pursed an NFL career anyways and played on multiple teams in a special teams role and as a backup running back. Rewarded for his effort, Lynn earned two super bowl rings with the Denver Broncos in the late 90s.

After his playing days were over, Lynn went into coaching immediately, staying with the Broncos as a special teams assistant. He then made his way around the league coaching under hall of fame caliber coaches Mike Shanahan and Bill Parcells. He also coached running backs under Jack Del Rio in Jacksonville and Romeo Crennel with the Browns.

Rex Ryan brought him from the Jets when Ryan transitioned to Buffalo two years ago after Lynn was interviewed for the open Jets job.

Lynn also interviewed for the head job in Miami prior to the 2016 season as well.

Point being, Lynn was a coveted coaching prospect that had offers on the table and succeeded this season in his role.

In fact, he's succeeded pretty much everywhere. Even in Cleveland where he coached Jamal Lewis to back to back 1,000 yard seasons.

Also, in regards to the Interim name tag, according to Pro Football Talk Lynn has a great opportunity to retain the job at seasons end.

I would love to have Lynn as the Offensive coordinator in Dallas. If he achieved what he achieved in Buffalo just imagine what he could do with the Cowboys' loaded roster.
