Dan Pope Announces Candidacy for Lubbock Mayor

Wednesday afternoon, Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees President, Dan Pope, announced he will run for Lubbock mayor in 2016.

“Lubbock needs honest, transparent and approachable leadership,” Pope said. “I know I will bring the focused leadership needed to move our city forward toward a bright future. As mayor of Lubbock, I am prepared to lead our city to new opportunities for growth.”

In his announcement, Pope mentioned three major issues he would address as mayor. “The city of Lubbock must continue to focus on water, power generation for 2019 forward, and how to best deal with storm water fees and other fees,” Pope said. “It is imperative that we focus on these challenges while continuing to live within our budget.”

In addition to his service on the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees, Pope works as the Chief Development Officer of Covenant Health System.

Current Lubbock mayor, Glen Robertson, is running for Congress in the 2016 Republican Primary and will not seek re-election in 2016.

According to Lubbock ISD, Pope will not have to resign his Board of Trustees seat as he runs for mayor.
