Senator Bernie Sanders made a quick trip to Lubbock Saturday and took a little extra time to take in the Buddy Holly Statue.

You could call it fate or kismet, but local author Justin Bradley Fulkerson had intended to take in the Bernie Sanders event at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, but just missed it.

As he was driving by the Buddy Holly Center, he saw Bernie walking around all alone (he said the area was pretty much empty other than Bernie and one other random guy).

Fulkerson dropped by the surreal scene and grabbed a quick handshake and a photo with the former presidential candidate. Sanders then went inside the courtyard so he could get a picture with Lubbock's own Buddy Holly.

Politics aside, it's pretty cool when a celebrity recognizes one of our own.

Also, for those following Justin Bradley Fulkerson, the third book in his series, "Maggie: An Hour For Magic III," will be released on Friday, April 13th.
