It's no secret that Lubbock has some of the best schools in the state and nation thanks to our great teachers and educational staff. If you have a young child, there are several local schools that rank highly according to website Great Schools.

However, if you're relocating to Lubbock or have a child heading into middle or high school next year, there are a few schools to consider as well.

The schools included in the video above and list below all have between 7 to 10 (out of 10) in their Great Schools rating. The website also allows users to post reviews, some of which are quoted in the slide show below.

Feel free to check out the list when researching your child's educational choices. And remember: Just because a school isn't listed, doesn't mean it's not a good school. Several schools not included in this list also scored 7, 8, 9 and 10 from the website.

    Honey Elementary School

    A perfect 10 out of 10 score for Honey Elementary School. One parent review said: "...some of the most experienced teachers in Lubbock...Parents have many opportunities to get involved."

    Preston Smith Elementary School

    Another perfect 10 out of 10 score, parents' comments noted diversity, engagement from teaching staff and an emphasis on math and language skills.

    J.T. Hutchinson Middle School

    Hutchinson scored very well with a 9 out of 10. Great School community members indicated that 'Hutch' was a magnet school as well as "...the only international baccalaureate middle school in west Texas!"

    Talkington School for Young Women

    With a 9 out of 10 rating, the 415-student school was praised for both its arts and music programs and its robotics program.

    This school, while scoring a respectable 7 out of 10 grade, was a 5-star parent rated institution. Parents indicated an emphasis on the arts such as graphic art, band and choir with many reviews mentioning "no bullies."
